Search Institute Asset Survey
The Search Institute Asset Survey is administered to grades 9 and 11 students at the high school every other year. It is an anonymous questionnaire that measures developmental assets. Developmental assets represent the positive relationships, opportunities, skills and values that promote the positive development of all children and adolescents. The survey measures principal asset domains (including support, empowerment, and social competencies), thriving indicators (including leadership, resisting danger, helping others), developmental deficits and risk-taking behaviors.
The survey is an important tool in shaping the health, physical education and counseling curricula and also helps the district design programs that meet our students’ unique needs. Data collection is also a requirement in federal grant applications in which the district can obtain funds to support these important curriculum areas. Survey results help us to evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of programs that are implemented, and we can compare data over time to observe trends.
The Asset Survey is a voluntary survey which parents have the right to exempt their child from participating in. If you would like to exempt your child from taking the survey, you need submit the request in writing to the Health Resource Teacher, Karen Beatty. If you have any other questions about the Asset Survey please call 781-741-1560 ext. 1460.
